| Korfball starts in Saint Kentigern College - Tuesday, 26 July 2005This week sees the start of Korfball in the curriculum at Saint Kentigern college in Auckland. Core players from the Auckland Club side ran an evening's training session for eight teachers on Monday 25th July. This capitalised on the good work done by Rob Smith at the PE teacher conference in 2003, something which we should aim to do again as a sport.
Saint Kents (as it is known) only became mixed in 2003 so initially Korfball will be played by years with girls and boys. In the future it is hoped to be played throughout the school years.
I'd like to thank Neil MacBeth for getting equipment out to Auckland at short notice to make this work and Wellington Korfball for emergency posts which should be shortly winging their way up country so we can continue with our club training program.
Also to all the Auckland players who gave up their time to make this work.

| Auckland Players Selected for National Squad - Tuesday, 14 June 2005Following the training led by the Australian National Coach and regional tournament held in Wellington at the end of April / beginning of May, the NZ National Squad was duely selected by KNZ. Congratulations to Auckland players Andrew Hamilton and Shontee Carol who were both selected for the squad. The current goal of the National team is to make 3rd place at Hong Kong 2006 and therefore qualify for the World Championship in 2007. |
| AKC Demos Korfball in QE Square - Saturday, 14 May 2005On Saturday 14th may from 11AM - 3PM AKC demonstrated Korfball in Queen Elizabeth Square, Central Auckland next door to the Britomart centre. The club tried to recruit potential players by handing out flyers and demonstrating Korfball shots. The weather was exceptionally warm for the time of year which meant many of the people passing were persuaded to have a go. Similar recruitment is planned for the future in other venues around the Auckland area. |

| Beginners Session - Thursday, 24 March 2005The second indoor session (on 24th March) is aimed fairly and squarely at beginners. Tell your friends, bribe workmates. Cam is trying to get us some airtime on the free radio stations, Moppie is another article in The Aucklander and Carol is chasing some possible TV exposure. |

| Christmas Holiday Details - Thursday, 16 December 2004It's nearly time to break out your comedy Santa hats as the silly season is upon us once more.
The last training session of the year will take place in Auckland University Gym on 16th December (happily a whole 3 days before Shadows shuts). We will resume outdoor training on Thursday 13th January initially in the Domain, although the location is subject to change. I intend to arrange a couple of outdoor games over the holidays..... watch this space.
We are provisionally booked back into the University Gym on Thursday nights from 10th March 2005. |
| Incorporation Is Here - Wednesday, 10 November 2004OK it was in the "dull but had to be done" category however we managed to spice things up a little with some chili. The inaugural meeting of AKC was held on 10th November in Epsom. With the aid of a little wine we managed to vote on the executive, our rules and form an outline of where we are taking the club going forward. The minutes are available as a pdf on the club page. The official nod came from the register of Societies on the 22nd November so from this date onwards we are formally known as Auckland Korfball Incorporated. Hurrah!! |
| Mission Bay Beginners Session Report - Saturday, 6 November 2004In true Auckland fashion the weather thankfully refused to follow the forecast from earlier in the week and instead of the rain we got a clear sunny day. As the general population was out making the most of the rays, things were pretty tight for space down at the beach. However we'd advertised a beginners session at the Sports Expo and a beginners session the people of Mission Bay got. We had a good half dozen or so new people come down specifically plus several who happened to be passing and joined in for a few shots/quick run around. A special mention to Miller for persuading a large number of young ladies to have a go.
A very successful afternoon was finished off Belgium stylee in De Fontein with a few Hoegardens, fries and obligatory mayo. |
| Korfball Article In The Aucklander - Wednesday, 3 November 2004Auckland Korfball made it to the press with an excellent article in The Aucklander (Central, City and Northern editions) along with a couple of Moppie's photos he took for the Sports Expo.

| Sports Expo Report - Sunday, 31 October 2004The Sports Expo came and went in a whirl of body builders, snow boarders and jet boats. Over the three days AKC took down 100ish emails, handed out around 500 flyers and persuaded somewhere in the region of 1000 people to have their first 'taste of the Korf'. The stall was well received with all the effort going into the T-Shirts, Banner, DVD, Photos and other stall paraphernalia looking good. Click here for some snaps. Even if there are few new players directly gained from the stall it will certainly have been worth while as a branding exercise. A BIG Thank You to everyone who helped out. |
